I spent almost 35 years in the northwest and Ed Monk was the God Father of vessel design. Knew his son who was following in his footsteps. Thank you for your comments, JP

Hi Jack ! Just found you and your super work on the contest first and last works uploaded to FAA. Was so delighted to see your marine section and the beautiful yachts ! I grew up on 2 classic Ed Monk cruisers, both of which my dad built and cruised our beautiful British Columbia cruising grounds for 30 years! The 1st Alern was built in Cow Bay in Prince Rupert in 1943-5 and the 2nd Alern came 18 years later. Dad, who was a civil engineer, modified the hull of the first Alern from a planing hull to a semi-diplacement. It was an extremely seaworthy little boat, 34.5 ', and dad brought it down to Vancouver unfinished inside. She handled the Queen Charlotte Straight and Hecate Straight beautifully ! Anyway, just had to tell you how super happy I am to have found your work and I'm now going to put you into my 'Favourites' ! Happy cruising, if you still go "down to the sea in ships!"
