Pen & Ink drawing of a "1902 Cadillac Model A" On August 27,1902, the Detroit Automobile Company that was started to manufacture automobiles designed by Henry Ford to be sold as a Ford Automobile, changed names and leadership. Ford had only completed one automobile and was perfecting before applying for patents. The investors hired Henry Leland to take over production causing Ford to leave. The new company took the name of Cadillac after the founder of Detroit. Under Leland Cadillac became very profitable and a leader in the auto industry. Only three Model A Cadillacs were built in 1902, the first in the fall.
