Description
It was the sixth year of improvements from Harry Knox's original three wheel runabout in
1901. Knox added a fourth wheel in 1902 with a look similar to the Olds curved
dash. By 1903, the Knox runabout was built taller and heavier duty increasing
the engine output from 5 H. P. to 8 H. P. on a longer wheel base.
Again in 1904 there was little change except for a more powerful
engine. In 1905, the Knox automobile started using model numbers
and the runabout was changed to being called a Model E, sitting four
people with a new 10 H. P. engine.
As illustrated here, the 1906 Knox Runabout was giving a new model
becoming Model F-1, still powered by the famous Knox porcupine internal
combustion engine, air cooled by the drilling of holes in the engine walls and
screwing brass rods into the couple hundred holes for more cooling surface.
In 1906, the companie’s Runabout F-1, could seat either two people or extended body to seat four with an add on of a
folding Victorian style roof covering the passenger area. For the year of 1906, the company offered five different models with
six different body styles. On the 112" wheelbase you could have either a six passenger l imousine body or seven passenger
Tonneau body powered by a four cylinder engine rated at 40 H.P. The 7 passenger vehicle had two jump seats that folded out
of the way if not being used.
