Description
An enhanced photograph from the Gilmore Museum by Jack Pumphrey of the Packard 299, # 28 racer built in 1916 following the racing success of Ralph De Palma in the very similar Twin Six, a massive, beastly thing with 12 rapping, belching cylinders, during 1916, Packard built two special racing cars that were driven by Ralph DePalma, the 'Twin Six.' The first Packard V-12 displaced 424 CID producing 85 horsepower at an astonishing, for the time, 3000 RPM, it was found in a barn, amazingly intact in Paraguay and subsequently restored to the current form with the larger 424 engine.
