Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument, The Organ Mountains are a rugged mountain range in southern New Mexico in the Southwestern United States, they lie 10 miles east of the city of Las Cruces, in Do�a Ana County, Highest point: Organ Needle, the highest of the Organ Mountains at 8,990 feet, Dripping Springs Resort, built in the 1870's, by Col Eugene Van Patten who came to Mesilla at the invitation of his uncle, John Butterfield, who operated the Butterfield State Line, Agostini-Justiniani "el Ermitano" known as the Hermit of la Cueva� The Cave� He told friends of his plans to live at La Cueva, they warned him of the dangers and he replied I shall make a fire in front of my cave Friday evenings, If the fire fails to appear, it will be because I have been killed
